Inge Morath is one of the most prominent figures of the legendary Magnum photo agency (founded by Robert Capa, Henri Cartier-Bresson) and the exhibition boasts an overview of her most prominent work from 1954 to 1988. The selection will show black and white photographs from her big reportages in Spain, England, France, Russia, China, the US and Austria. She was born in 1923 in Graz / Austria, lived after her marriage to playwright Arthur Miller in 1962 in the US and died there 2002.

The Inge Morath Award was established by the members of Magnum Photos in tribute to their colleague Inge Morath. Funded by the photographers, the Award is administered by the Inge Morath Foundation in cooperation with the Magnum Foundation, New York. The annual Inge Morath Award is given to a woman photographer under thirty years of age, to assist in the completion of a long term documentary project. The winner and finalists are selected by the photographer members of Magnum Photos and a representative of the Morath Foundation at the Magnum annual meeting. Two of this winners are selected for the presentation in Baku:

Olivia Arthur „The Middle Distance“: she traveled along the border between  Europe and Asia (Turkey, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Russia) and photographed there young women, who often have to decide between a more traditional or more western life.

Lurdes R. Basoli „Caracas, the city of lost bullets“: she documents the violence in certain areas of the city of Caracas (Venezuela). The black and white pictures show victims, family members and offenders and reveal their fear, hopelessness, rage, resignation and pain.
